Introduction
With the slideshow tab we can create and edit slides to use on our homepage.
You will have the choice between a fading, scrolling, or nivo slideshow to use and whether you wish to create the slides from your post categories or upload the images yourself in the admin panel.
Choosing the slider type
To get started you will need to decide which type of slideshow you wish to use on your homepage. You can choose between “Fading”, “Scrolling”, and the “Nivo” slideshows.
The options within the “Advanced Slider Settings” toggle will change depending on which type you select.
Fading and scrolling slider
The fading and scrolling slider options are pretty much the same. The differences between these two slideshows is that one will fade between the images and the other will scroll horizontally. Click on the “Advanced Slider Settings” toggle while selecting the fading or scrolling slider to start customizing and editing their options.
Slider transition speed:
The first option you will see is the slider transition speed. This is the amount of time that each image is displayed before transitioning to the next image.
This value is defined in milliseconds.
NOTE: One second equals 1000 milliseconds.
Disable slider transitions:
If you do not want your slideshow to transition automatically then check this option.
Disable pause on hover:
By default the slider will pause when you hover over it. You can also disable that here.
Slider fade speed:
This is the slider animation speed. You can set it to fast or slow.
Slider navigation style:
At the bottom of the slider is a navigation system where the user can cycle through the images manually. You can set it to “dots” which are small clickable buttons or “Image Thumbnails” which are actual thumbnails of your slider images. They will be created automatically so you need not worry about editing your images.
Display slider on every page:
You can choose to display the slider on every page by checking this option. Useful for photography related websites.
Nivo slider
If you have the Nivo selected and you click on the “Advanced Slider Settings” toggle then you will have a different selection of options. These are the options related to using the nivo slider.
Transition effects:
The nivo has a wide array of transition styles that you can use.
Segments:
The transitions are broken up into “segments” which you can control the number of. Higher values will be more fancy but may have an impact on performance. Try and find the number that suits you best.
Next and previous buttons:
You can choose whether to display next and previous buttons with the nivo slider. You can have them display all the time, only on hover, or not at all.
Display navigation dots:
The navigation dots will display along the bottom of the slider and will let you manually switch between slides.
Adding new slides
Also in the bottom of your advanced settings you will see an option called “Slider Source”.
Here you can choose whether to have your slideshow grab images from your posts via a blog category or by setting them up manually here in the slideshow tab.
Custom defining slides
When you have the “Custom Define Slides Below” option selected then you will see a button saying “Add New Slider”.
Below that you will see your current slides. Just click on the button to add more slides to your slideshow.
And click on the arrow for each slide to edit the slide information. You can edit everything about the slide such as the image, alt text, description, read more, etc etc.
At the bottom of the slide you will see two links where you can remove the slide and cancel your changes.
NOTE: Make sure that every slide has an image / video URL set otherwise the slideshow will not load properly.
The slideshow currently only accepts video from youtube and vimeo. You would paste the URL to the video in this field.

Using blog categories
When you have the “Automatically Create Slides from Blog Categories” option selected then the two options on the right will appear.
You can choose how many slides you wish to use and assign multiple post categories to pull from.
Next you will need to edit some of your posts and setup the
slide information for each post that you want to display as a slide.
